Monterra Is Lifestyle Central

Community amenities are considered essential at Monterra, a beautiful master-planned community just northeast of Dallas. Well-designed amenities not only attract potential buyers but also improve residents’ daily lives and foster stronger communities long after move-ins.

Upscale amenities offer residents a mix of luxury and convenience, making daily life feel more enjoyable and exclusive. These amenities, such as a resort-style swimming complex, brand new amenity center, playgrounds, and sports courts provide Monterra residents with leisure and recreational options right at their doorstep.

Amenities enrich the living experience, adding value and appeal to a property. You might even say that having upscale amenities right in the community changes buying a home into a lifestyle choice!

Community-Centric

At Monterra, the Amenity Center serves as a hub for social interaction, recreation, and community support. It provides a shared space where residents can come together and get to know each other by hosting gatherings that build a sense of unity and belonging. For example, Monterra residents came together for an end-of-the-summer bash at the swimming complex that included both live music and a disc jockey, and of course a bouncing castle for the kids.

Whether it’s a summer barbecue, a holiday party, or a community yard sale, hosting these events encourages interaction, cooperation, and mutual support among residents.

Some of the other community events at Monterra include:

  • Celebrate Fate: This annual event features live music, food vendors, and a fireworks finale. It’s a great way for residents to enjoy a festive atmosphere and connect with neighbors.
  • Hiking and Biking Events: Monterra’s network of hiking and biking trails often hosts group hikes and bike rides, encouraging residents to explore the natural beauty of the area.
  • Holiday Celebrations: Seasonal events like Halloween trick-or-treating, Christmas light displays, and Easter egg hunts are organized to bring festive cheer to the community.
  • Pickleball Tournaments: With a dedicated pickleball court, Monterra hosts regular pickleball tournaments, which are a fun way for residents to stay active and socialize.

Did You Say Pickleball?

That’s right! Monterra has not one but two pickleball courts for picklers of all ages. Pickleball is a perfect family game because it’s easy to learn and great for bonding. It combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, making it a fun challenge for everyone. Pickleball promotes physical activity, teamwork, and healthy competition. Plus, with its slower pace and smaller court, it’s less intimidating than some other sports, allowing grandparents, parents, and kids to enjoy playing together.

If you’ve never played, what are you waiting for? Pickleball has become immensely popular. Here’s a rundown of what you need to know:

  • Court and Equipment: It’s played on a badminton-sized court with a low net, using a perforated plastic ball and paddles.
  • Serve: The serve is underhand and must be made diagonally across the net, starting from the right-hand service square.
  • Scoring: Only the serving team can score points. Games are typically played to 11 points, and a team must win by 2 points.
  • Double Bounce Rule: After the serve, the ball must bounce once on each side before players can volley (hit it in the air without a bounce).
  • Non-Volley Zone: A seven-foot area on each side of the net called the “kitchen.” Players can’t volley the ball while standing in this zone.
  • Faults: A fault occurs if the ball is hit out of bounds, doesn’t clear the net, is volleyed from the non-volley zone, or if a serve doesn’t land within the correct service court.

Playing pickleball naturally leads to making friends because it’s a social sport. The game is often played in doubles, requiring teamwork and communication.

The Name Mystery

Pickleball was invented in 1965 by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum on Bainbridge Island, Washington. They devised the game to entertain their children with a fun, family-friendly activity.

If you’ve ever wondered how pickleball got its name, you’re not alone! There are two popular theories. One is that Joel Pritchard’s wife, Joan, named it after the pickle boat in the crew, where oarsmen were chosen from the leftovers of other boats. The other theory is that it was named after the Pritchards’ dog, Pickles, who loved to chase the ball around.

Popularity Contest

It’s incredible to see how popular pickleball has become. As of 2023, there are 36.5 million players, making it the fastest-growing sport in the United States.

Speaking of popularity, it’s hard to beat Rockwall County. Monterra is in Rockwall County, one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas. Its appeal can be attributed to the fact that the Rockwall schools are excellent, there are beautiful natural surroundings like Lake Ray Hubbard, and its proximity to Dallas provides ample employment opportunities and a wealth of cultural and sporting events.
